I meant 2001. I watched it again. I suppose I...Yes. I meant 2001. I watched it again. I suppose I could try again. I know Scott likes it. I took my son to the first Star Wars as I said, also they had King Kong.

I'll see if I can find Solaris on YouTube. I was able to catch up with some Bergman and I found a Bunuel at the local library once...I am getting terribly well educated in movies!

Some though, inexplicably are unavailable.

One thing I recall before TV I heard, it suddenly came on the radio: 'The Triffids' which I found very good and even frightening as a good thriller should be. Now,when I saw it on TV later it was bad. Uninteresting and weak.

And who could make a War of the Worlds? Well's is I think mostly best left on the page, although I think his "literary" or non-sci fi novels might make it to the screen....has that happened.

I had a Stanislaw Lem, but felt I would have to get all or a lot of his books so I left the one I had....but I believe he is good. I...I think you'd really enjoy Stalker, Richard. It's very atmospheric, with a deep Russian-ness to it under the SF trappings.

The others are all well worth seeing, too, I'd say (though I agree that the later films in both the Alien and Star Wars franchises diminish exponentially in power).

btw, I think you mean "2001" up in your second paragraph where you've written "Star Wars" ...Dr Jack Rosshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01805945600952222957noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29676463.post-58010488276663756652016-11-01T22:41:02.073+13:002016-11-01T22:41:02.073+13:00Of the movies I have seen part of Metropolis on Yo...Of the movies I have seen part of Metropolis on YouTube...it is certainly strange.

I saw Star Wars when it came out I was about 21. I liked the music for Thus Sprach Zarathrustra by Richard Strauss as it was a favourite piece of music for me at the time. I had also read Nietzsche's book and liked it very much.

Recently on the Concert Program there was a talk about how that book by N was liked by a number of musicians and N also emphasised the musical form of it.

But the rest of the movie at the time I found relatively uninteresting. I simply liked the start with the apes and the music with the bones cascading around. I was informed that the "hippies" liked it as they were all high on drugs so perhaps that was a requirement.

I really enjoyed the FIRST of the Star Wars things. I loved it as did my son who was quite young. From then on he has watched and collected all the Star Wars movies. I liked others of them also but my favourite is the first. Great movie which I don't think I will tire of.

I haven't seen any of the others except the Alien series. Alien One was amazing. I watched the rest but slowly the effect diminished for me. Yes, Alien is a great movie of its kind...I did watch all of them though. Compelling. So compelling one almost wants the Aliens to all but win!! Or win...

They have no reason, they are beings that are like, well like a spider being killed by a wasp, it just happens, or the spider wins sometimes. It exemplifies a horrific but fascinating and seemingly mindless force against humans. It has intelligence of some kind but what it's rationale, so to speak, is, doesn't matter. It just is some kind of (to humans) malevolent force. I would hate to read an "interpretation" of it. To hell with that. It just is. Terrifyingly great entertainment and therefore great. Especially the first and the actress Sig Weavour is just right. Richardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10272507198753290435noreply@blogger.com
